The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science was founded in 1993.
Yet, mathematical sciences were developed in Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń from the very beginning of its existence i.e. from 1945. First, within departments, later, in the Institute of Mathematics – a part of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
In the 1960s a new specialty, ‘numeric section', on mathematical studies was established. It can be regarded as the beginning of computer science studies.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, with its high level of scientific research and a number of world-class experts, has always been rated the highest category in Polish evaluation of scientific units.
The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies and educates almost 800 students. It has rights to provide students with the title of bachelor (licencjat), master or PhD in mathematics and bachelor (licencjat or inżynier) or master in computer science.
